The greatest country song of all time..."He Stopped Loving Her Today"..I would say now that is traditional country, not contempary or pop..Maybe now the country music industry will return to the true sound of country music and we can get George Jones back on the radio stations where he belongs.

It is amazing to me he has won the Kennedy Honor's, America's favorite country music song of all time in less than 12 months and has 2 new albums out, and can't get air play..Well I think we as fans have got to start ringing those phones again and demanding they put George on the air.."You and Me and Time", should be playing right now, with "Long Gone Daddy".

I agree.. I certainly wish we could return to Traditional Country music.. We have no local stations that play it here.. We do have Classic Country music on our cable tv but they don't play any of the new songs by the "Traditional Country Artists". I think we should start ringing those phones again. As fans we owe that to George. We need to make out voices heard... Me You and Time and Long Gone Daddy are both excellent songs..I have yet to hear them on the radio...Maybe we can change that... smile.gif

There was another post about awards shows..........so, between that topic and this, I remember watching the Grammy Awards one time and was really pleasantly surprised. Seems the people nominated--and winning--Grammys in the country genres, were more traditional country than what the so-called "country" awards shows were featuring.

I guess "country" is in the ear of the beholder, but it seems that many out there need to get their hearing checked! As I always say, those of us pushing to keep traditional country alive are trying to preserve an art form. We don't want it diluted and watered-down and changed into something it wasn't meant to be.

People make fun of me for liking Country because, they haven't heard the true country. They start making fun of me and sing songs like "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy." I always say that's not country music it's only called that. As George said Fans are Being Force Fed

George is 100% right...there does need to be a distinction made between the "styles" (trying to be fair)of country. For me I will always prefer Traditional... smile.gif

I got an answer. The person sounded mad though. And by the way it is not just a new country station. It's slogan is the best country. Here it is.

"Dear A Traditional Country Fan Depressed,

WLGC is, in fact, one of the few country stations to play traditional country artists as part of our regular playlist.

They don't comprise the a big chunk of our library, because, quite frankly, we want to play music that the audience wants to hear. While there may be many people who want to hear Loretta Lynn and Merle Haggard, those people aren't buying records, since traditional artists have minuscule sales.

So, as a business, we have to provide a product that people want . That would be Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and other sales giants.

Thanks for your inquiry.

Best regards,
Mark Justice
Program Director"

Kinda sounds like the Awards show thing how they railroaded George a few yrs ago and wouldn't let him sing his song. They said he wasn't important enough basically." Well ok also I have never besides on the request sundays heard one Traditional Country Song on it. George, Merle, ect. are Sales Giants To!!!!!! angry.gif angry.gif angry.gif angry.gif angry.gif angry.gif :

You weren't being rude. Your welcome. It is very sad sad.gif that Country Music has forgot it's elders. That is one reason why it needs a name change. If it has a name change they were no longer be classed as country. Then I'll start watching the CMA's. It would be nice. That man basically said "The people don't want to hear Merle Haggard, George Jones, ect. There may be a few but, everyone wants to hear the record sales giants. Well, you know wasm't George on the charts last week! angry.gif I had to bite my tounge to not reply back to him. He just slammed George, Merle, and all other Traditional Country singers angry.gif Maybe I'll e-mail another radio station. I was passing through North Carolina once and they had a radio station called "The Legends." They played nothing but, All Tradtional Country. I was in Heaven! biggrin.gif Then I got back home to the junk that is back on our radio stations. angry.gif I've quit listening to radio besides at Christmas time because theres a station that plays all christmas music around here. I'm just sick and tired of this pop country thing. angry.gif It makes me so mad that I could go to the CMA's next year and make a speech about like what George Said. Well atleast we have CDs! The only thing is that George won't be exposed to a new generation very easily. sad.gif

ohmy.gif Well I need it, but I want it to come back to it's true genre and stop discriminating on the Legend's of Country music and give them air play when a new album is cut..We shouldn't have to wait until someone dies to point out their attributes or contrabutions and live in the past, when they are still living now and still working.
