I was there this morning to get mine too ! It was nice to hear George playing. The disc is great and the photos inside are cool too.
It is all previously released with the exception of 2 songs :
"I really don't want to know" and "I'm a long gone daddy". George had released that song on the "Too wild too long" album but this is a different version, more uptempo excellent. I am not one to usually recommend "best of" collections especially with only 12 tracks, but the packaging and the 2 new songs make it a must in my eyes. Thank goodness Cracker Barrel promotes REAL Country

That's my favorite thing about going to Cracker Barrel, I always hear George sing a song while I'm there. Besides the food, I enjoy hearing all the older country music they play. I'm lucky, I have 2 within 30-35 minutes from my house.

So then George did or didn't make a new recording for the album?
Thanks, Josh

Not new recordings, just 2 previously unreleased songs. I believe both were recorded in the late 80's

George talked about the unreleased song "I Don't Want to Know" on Crook & Chase Wednesday. Said it was his favorite cut on the CD, called it a "slobbering tear jerker". He said he had the song in the can for about 5 years. I haven't gotten to Cracker Barrell to buy my copy yet (plan to Tuesday) so haven't heard the song. I was under the impression it was an older recording. Guess we'll be able to tell by the sound of his voice. Does it give dates on the CD on when the songs were recorded?

"Long Gone Daddy" is listed as 1987 which would hold true as the other version of this song was released on "Too Wild Too Long" in '87. I'm sure it was recorded at that same time "I Don't Want to Know" does not give a date but from the sound of it I would say it was also recorded about that time. I'm quite sure both songs were recorded while on Epic, but curiously they are both credited as courtesy of Mercury, which is owned now by MCA/Universal/Geffen so it's possible they aquired these songs when George joined that label, but never released them. The producers of these sessions are not credited here and that would certainly narrow it down. But by listening that would be my assumption.
