Country music superstar GEORGE JONES is expanding his food line with the addition of drinking water. “George Jones’ White Lightning Tennessee Spring Water” is the latest entry and is initially being introduced through grocery and convenience stores throughout the Southeast. Bottled by Sweetwater Corp., based in Hohenwald, Tennessee, “George Jones ‘White Lightning’” is pumped from a natural spring located on several hundred acres of private undeveloped land in rural Tennessee.

Also, in April, George Jones Country Sausage expands to include pre-cooked sausage links and bacon for the microwave. The brand currently offers sausage patties, sausage rolls and precooked sausage and biscuits. George Jones Country Sausage is currently available in more than 5000 grocery stores located throughout the south, midwest and northeast.

The public reaction to George Jones Country Sausage is “phenomenal” says Roger Williams, president of Williams Sausage, manufacturer of the George Jones brand. “I think the success speaks for itself when you see that we are adding to the line less than a year after first introducing the product. People love George Jones and they are certainly willing to try something with his name on it. The fact that the product has such a great taste has resulted in a flood of fan mail at our plant.”

The Williams Sausage group will also distribute “White Lightning” as well as the marinade and sauce line produced under the name George Jones Country Style Sauces.

Timing for the water seems great with the recent realization that some of our more popular water brands are simply chemically treated tap water. It is much easier to produce great bottled water if the “source” is ideal rather than try to purify inferior water. The property that contains the White Lightning “source” has always been a non-agricultural area and, consequently, very few chemicals have been put into the ground: The purest water is normally filtered for years by Mother Nature as it seeps slowly through the earth and clay.

On the music front, the 72-year old legend continues to tour, performing approximately 100 shows a year. His tour sponsor, “Camping World,” a nationwide chain of retail stores catering to the outdoorsmen and RV enthusiasts’ carries George Jones CDs and marinades.

Jones is currently in the studio with producer, Keith Stegall, producer of Jones’ Grammy Award winning vocals on “The Cold Hard Truth” for an upcoming fall release. In addition, Jones recently recorded at the famed Sam Phillips Studio in Memphis with rockabilly legend, Jerry Lee Lewis for an upcoming duet project for Lewis.
