As recording of the Category 5 Records CD tribute to George Jones gets underway, many top Country artists have lined up to participate, offering their talents to salute the man many consider the greatest Country artist ever. “God’s Country” ships in mid-October. Slated as the debut single, the title track performed by George Jones.
This Fall George Jones turns 75, but everyone who knows him agrees his music is truly ageless. Confirmed so far to perform on “God’s Country” are Vince Gill with “She Thinks I Still Care; “Joe Diffie singing “White Lightning;” Sammy Kershaw with “He Stopped Loving Her Today;” Pam Tillis with “Take Me;” Mark Chesnutt singing “Walk Through This World;” and Tracy Lawrence singing “The One I Loved Back Then (The Corvette Song).”
Several other major Country stars will be confirmed in the days ahead. Producing the package is Category 5 A&R executive and noted Country musician Billy Joe Walker. Category 5 President Ray Termini will co-produce.
“As far as I am concerned this man is the greatest Country singer that has ever lived,” says Category 5 Records President/CEO Raymond Termini. “I couldn’t be more excited to present his worldwide fans a record that will go down in history.”
“It is truly inspiring to work with this great legend,” says Producer and Category 5 Records A&R Executive Billy Joe Walker. “He is not only a legend but a wonderful person. When George lays down a track it’s magic and he can really make a producer look good. We are having a great time making this album.”
Added Jones, “I’m honored that Category 5 Records is so enthusiastic about this project. I look forward to having a good time with the other artists involved in the recording process and working with the staff of Category 5 Records on the single release.”
Over the past half-century, George Jones has become one of the most influential recording artists and performers in history. He has charted more singles than any artist in any genre, and continues to perform, more than 100 concerts each year. Some of his signature hits include “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” “White Lightning,” “The Race Is On” and “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes.”
