"BIG LECTRIC FAN TO KEEP ME COOL WHILE I SLEEP"

08/27/09

By Chris Gray in Bayou Beat

Tennessee-born artist Wayne White is crafting a 15-foot puppet head in the likeness of Saratoga-born honky-tonk legend George Jones. Entitled “Big Lectric Fan to Keep Me Cool While I Sleep” - a reference to Jones’ song “Ragged but Right” - and appropriately positioned on its side, asleep, the outsized bust is patterned after the flat-topped Possum circa 1950. The installation opens Thursday, September 10, at the Rice University Art Gallery in Sewall Hall, with a free reception from 5-7 p.m. catered by St. Arnold’s Brewery; White will speak at 6 p.m. The sculpture will be displayed until October 18, when, like the Possum himself, it will mysteriously disappear. more!

It took forty years to bring them together, but now a country music legend is joining forces with a leading restaurant for good country cookin’ to offer up some songs that really cook! George Jones had already hit the country music charts and won several big awards by 1969, the year that Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® opened the doors of its very first location. And to help celebrate Cracker Barrel’s 40th year anniversary, George’s newest album goes on sale August 31st exclusively at all Cracker Barrel locations.

A Collection Of My Best Recollection has 12 tracks and features some of George’s most memorable songs, including “White Lightning,” “Finally Friday,” and, of course, “He Stopped Lovin’ Her Today,” which many people consider to be the best country music song of all time.
