"BIG LECTRIC FAN TO KEEP ME COOL WHILE I SLEEP"

By Chris Gray in Bayou Beat
Tennessee-born artist Wayne White is crafting a 15-foot puppet head in the likeness of Saratoga-born honky-tonk legend George Jones. Entitled “Big Lectric Fan to Keep Me Cool While I Sleep” - a reference to Jones’ song “Ragged but Right” - and appropriately positioned on its side, asleep, the outsized bust is patterned after the flat-topped Possum circa 1950. The installation opens Thursday, September 10, at the Rice University Art Gallery in Sewall Hall, with a free reception from 5-7 p.m. catered by St. Arnold’s Brewery; White will speak at 6 p.m. The sculpture will be displayed until October 18, when, like the Possum himself, it will mysteriously disappear. more!
