THE BOOT LISTS THE TOP 10 SAD LOVE SONGS IN COUNTRY MUSIC

by Stephen L. Betts - The Boot
If it weren’t for sad love songs, country music just wouldn’t sound the same. Whether reliving sweet memories or bidding a bitter farewell, the saddest love songs are universal, sharing emotions to which we can all relate. And the best (or worst?) of them are those we can’t quite make it through without shedding a few tears. So keep a box or two of tissues handy as The Boot counts down this tear-stained Top 10. Our Possum hit the number 1 spot…check it out!GEORGE JONES SINGS, BUT STILL CAN'T PICK!
George Jones has been called the “Rolls-Royce of country singers” throughout his decades-long career, but apparently there is one skill the singer has never quite mastered.
“I kinda wish I had learned to play the guitar better,” he tells Georgia’s Albany Herald newspaper. “My band finally took mine away from me because they said I was messing them up. Other than that, I could never ask for more. I have been very blessed.”
GEORGE JONES TO PLAY BENEFIT CONCERT IN GREENSBURG

Country music star George Jones is coming to Greensburg for a benefit concert.
He hopes to raise money toward building the town’s historic Twilight Theatre, which was destroyed by the E-F5 tornado in May 2007.
The new theatre will serve as an entertainment facility for the area as well as an auditorium for Greensburg’s schools.
The “May Music Mania” concert date is May 1. It will be at the Paul Windle Municipal Airport.

GEORGE JONES' HARD-TO-FIND HITS FINALLY EMERGE

By: Craig Shelburne
Last year I attempted to make a playlist encompassing George Jones’ career in country music, but despite numerous compilations and box sets at my disposal, I couldn’t track down his signature hits from the late 1960s and early 1970s when he recorded for the Musicor label. Later I learned that perpetual lawsuits have kept those tracks from being reissued over the years. However, the fine folks at Time-Life have somehow figured out a way to make everybody happy – especially me – by acquiring the rights to 34 sides from that era for a new double-disc set, George Jones: The Great Lost Hits.
